PSD to hold briefings on pension option
KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Service Department (PSD) will hold briefings from Tuesday to Jan 14 on the option for civil servants under the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) scheme to be placed under the pension scheme.
This follows the government's decision in November 2008 to allow civil servants who chose to be under the EPF scheme to instead go back to the pension scheme, so as to enable them to enjoy the privileges, such as medical benefits, given to government retirees.
In a statement issued on Thursday, PSD said so far, almost half of the 66,000 public sector employees who had been making EPF contributions would be offered the pension scheme.
It said 13 locations nationwide had been selected for the briefing sessions with the first to be held for the central region this Tuesday from 9am at the Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Razak, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi and from 3pm at the Dewan Bankuet (Banquet Hall), Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang.
On Wednesday, the briefing will be held at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) auditorium, Dewan Serbaguna of Perbadanan Labuan (Labuan Corporation) and at Bilik Gerakan Negeri, Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Kuching, Sarawak from 9am.
For Selangor, it will be held at the Dewan Jubli Perak, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building, Shah Alam, also on Wednesday from 3pm.
For the northern region, the briefing will be held at Dewan Sri Pinang, Penang on Thursday at 9am, and at Dewan Sri Negeri, Block D, Wisma Darul Aman, Alor Star, Kedah at 3pm.
In Perak, it will be held on Friday at the Dewan Bankuet, State Secretariat Building, Ipoh and for Sabah, at the auditorium of Kompleks Pentadbiran Kerajaan Persekutuan Sabah, Kota Kinabalu, from 9am.
For the southern region, the briefing will be held on Saturday from 9am at Kompleks Islam Johor, State Islamic Religious Department, Johor Baharu, and for the East Coast region, at Dewan Utama, Wisma Belia Bandar Indera Mahkota, Kuantan on Jan 12 from 9am.
